Executive Board 2014-2015

Below is a brief description and information of each member of the 2014-2015 C.R.U. executive board. Please feel free to contact any one of us if you have questions about the position or the group. We are also available at all of the meetings and would be more than happy to address any issues or take any suggestions regarding the effectiveness C.R.U.

Position: Co-Chair
Name:  Pablo López

Mechanical Engineering 
Class Standing: Junior
Career Plans: I am currently a mechanical engineer major who is working toward my goal to one day work in the automotive industry. My main concentration is to work on improving energy efficient vehicles. I would like to work for a company that allows me to travel the world improving vehicles especially those of public transportation.
About Me: I was born in Quito, Ecuador and raised in Chicago. I speak both English and Spanish. I love to travel, I've been to 3 continents and over 8 countries. Some of my hobbies are playing sports, drawing, and I also cut hair.

Duties:
  • Arrange and preside at all meetings (i.e. C.O.R.E.S. Meetings)
  • Help oversee the initiation, planning, and execution of all activities
  • Appoint nomination committees for Student Life Leadership Awards
  • In the middle of each semester the Co-Chairs must give the organization an accounting of the State of C.R.U. and recommend to the membership for their consideration such measures as the Co-Chairs deem fit for the betterment of C.R.U.

Career Plans: My future career plans include: Medical School or Public Health School. Upon finishing school, I plan to work with Doctors Without Boarders/ Médecins Sans Frontières. I have a passion for helping people #Ubuntu
About Me: I love to sing and dance! Proud to say that I am half African- American, half South African. I have been learning French for, going on seven years, and I am currently trying to learn Spanish. I love to travel and I plan on living all around the world. I love quotes.

Duties:
  • The Vice- Chair will assist the Co-Chairs with their duties as well as the duties of the remaining C.R.U. officers and representative positions and implementations of those duties
  • Chairperson of the Committee whose main purpose is to interpret the C.R.U. Constitution and is always allowed to ratify/edit the Constitution by adding amendments, but not without the approval of the Executive Board
  • Coordinate and plan all philanthropic and activities for the society

Career Plans: I plan to work for a non-profit organization to promote positive messages.
About Me: I love playing video games and sleeping.

Duties:
  • Maintain C.R.U. records such as members contact information and fully detailed minutes from every meeting as well as the Executive Board meetings
  • E-Mail minutes to all C.R.U. members within 24 hrs after the C.R.U. meetings and has minutes available for any C.R.U. member upon request
  • Assist with the making of the agenda for both the General Assembly and Executive Board meetings

Career Plans: My career plans include: getting admitted to the College of Engineering and pursue a Mechanical Degree, and obtain a job in Texas, closer to home, so that I can support my family financially.
About Me: I am from Sullivan City, Texas. I love playing sports, like soccer and basketball. I enjoy talking to people so whenever you see me just say "Hi!" Also, recently I started to collect watches.

Duties:
  • Mantain proper financial records of the transactions within the C.R.U. Account. 
  • Prepare a financial statement for each board meeting
  • Prepare a financial report each semester for the executive board and C.R.U. Members. 

Position: Public Relations

Career Plans: My ideal career plan is to work for an advertising firm in a major city, such as New York City, that will utilize my sales and marketing skills. 
About Me: This past summer, I studied aboard for six weeks in Europe and traveled to six different countries and twelve major cities. I enjoy running and admire photography. I am born and raised in Michigan, but do not like the winter season. I am a lefty and I love coffee.

Duties:
  • Under the guidance of the Executive Board, this officer will be responsible for creating, writing and posting press releases and official C.R.U. memorandums for all conventional media and communications means on and off MSU campus
  • Have each semester's schedule printed for distribution and posted in the C.R.U Room in Wilson Hall, the C.R.U website, and the C.R.U. Office in the Multicultural Center a week before the scheduled semester
  • Maintain and update the C.R.U website weekly

Position: Historian
Name: Maria Perez

Career Plans: After graduating with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and a Specialization in Security Management, I which to pursue a career within either the Federal Bureau of Investigations or with Drug Enforcement Administration Agencies.
About Me: I was born and raised in Texas in a family of seven. One of my future goals is to travel the world to learn about different cultures and nature. I love spending time with friends and loved ones. I enjoy reading, watching movies, playing video games and learning.

Duties:
  • Take pictures at all events sponsored by C.R.U.
  • Updating the CRU portfolio for our archives 
  • Posting images on Facebook 

Position: Program Facilitator
Name: Kate Steinfield

Major: Zoology and Neuroscience Major (Lyman Briggs) and Spanish Minor
Class Standing: Junior
Career Plans: My lifetime goal is to work in the behavioral sciences, more specifically with animal behavior. I plan on continuing school after I graduate and obtaining a Masters degree in Ethology or Neurobiology  A few of my dream jobs include training service/working animals, implementing enrichment programs at zoos, researching neurobiology and studying animal behavior in the wild. 
About Me: I'm just your friendly neighborhood Jewish girl, born right here in Lansing at Sparrow Hospital. Some of my favorite things in this world include my dog, playing piano and going for a swim to workout. There are all things that I do to help alleviate stress from school. I've been to several different countries and hope to continue traveling and learning about the beautiful world we live in until the day I die.

Duties:
  • Seek C.R.U. members or students that would like to have a program
  • Screen program proposals as they are being planned and inform the Executive Board of any programs that are in the process of being planned
  • Contact speakers for each program and confirm dates with a letter of confirmation at least 2 weeks in advance of the program and send follow up thank you after event

Position: ASMSU Representative

Class Standing: Junior
Career Plans: My career plans include earning a degree in the Food Industry Management and working for a global food company.
About Me: I am a Michigan native, who enjoys the simple things in life. I want to see and learn as much about the world as possible. I am a recreational tennis player, I enjoy tennis related conversations. I am a novice LGBT activist and I believe everyone has the right to live THEIR life, the way they chose to live it.

Duties:
  • Serve as the liaison between C.R.U. and ASMSU Academic Assembly
  • Attend all weekly C.R.U meetings and all weekly ASMSU Academic Assembly meetings
  • Submits Bills pertaining to C.R.U. to the ASMSU Academic Assembly
  • Report ASMSU Academic Assembly information to C.R.U. at General Assembly meetings and garner C.R.U's feedback

Juan Flores is the advisor for C.R.U. He is Currently a Coordinator in the Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions (OCAT). He holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work and bachelors degree in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Chicano Latino Studies from Michigan State University

Through his position in OCAT he serves as a:
- coordinator for the Maximizing Academic Growth in College (MAGIC) Transitional summer program for admitted incoming first year students
- coordinator for the Foundations of College Undergraduate Success (FOCUS) Conference,
- coordinator for the Annual Día de la Mujer Conference (DDLM),
- Area Coordinator for the Cultural Aide Program that Hires, Supervises, & trains Cultural Aides that live in the residence Halls to help students make the best of their undergraduate experience at Michigan State University

Carlos Fuentes is the co-advisor for C.R.U. Carlos has a Master of Arts from MSU, 1993. He was an Advisor to: Former groups: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), 13 years, Alternative Spring Break (ASB), 13 years, Into the Streets, 13 years and has started the MSU MLK Service Day Project.

Carlos is the current advisor to: Latinos on the Move, International Volunteer Action Corps (IVAC), MSU Breakdance Club, Lambda Theta Phi Latino Fraternity, Volunteers Around the World and the Leadership Institute at MSU.

Carlos Fuentes is heavily involved with Study Abroad and is the Founder of the new Belize Spring Break Study Abroad Program and is the Co-Founder of the International Engagement in Mexico program: Oaxaca, Puebla, Merida and Campeche.

Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars and the Golden Key International Honor Society

Past work from Carlos at MSU includes: MSU Police Officer, Center for Service-Learning & Civic Engagement and Internationalizing the Student Experience. Carlos has Military experience with 22 years in the US Army and the US Army Michigan National Guard. He is currently working: Office of Cultural & Academic Transitions (OCAT). He has traveled to 32 countries and is married for 25 years and has two teenage boys. Carlos's Interests includes:traveling, singing, playing guitar, dancing, hiking, biking, camping, reading about World War II history, Mexican culture and history, Mayan culture, volunteering, inspiring people and especially youth, pilot and aircraft mechanic.
